Gunotsav Assam: Gunotsav is a quality enhancement initiative of the State for bringing about improvement in learning levels of students at Elementary level. Hon’ble Education Minister, Assam has already announced the implementation of the programme in his budget speech. It aims to evaluate schools and students of schools in order to assess their performance and design strategies to bring about quality improvement in levels of learning as well as in the school environment. Assessment will be done on four core areas viz Academic achievement of children of Class-2 to 8, Co-scholastic activities, Availability, and Utilization of School Infrastructure and other facilities and Community Participation.

The State Govt. of Assam is seriously concerned about ensuring quality elementary education to all children. The State Govt has taken the decision to implement Gunotsav in the line Gujarat from academic year, 2017. Hon’ble Minister Education has already announced the implementation of the programme in his budget speech. Assam Gunotsav 2018 was held in OCT-NOV 2018.

Phase: I (Total 16 districts)

Date: 8th to 11th October 2018

District: Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Morigaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara Mankachar, and Udalguri.

Phase: II (Total 17 districts)

Date: 31st October to 3rd November 2018

District: Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Dhubri, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Kamrup (Metro), Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Nagaon Tinsukia and West Karbi Anglong

Assam Gunotsav 2017-18

The 1st phase of Gunotsav was conducted from 4th to 7th April 2017. In the 1st phase, eight districts viz. Barpeta, Chirang, Dibrugarh, Hailakandi, Kamrup-Metro, Lakhimpur, Morigaon and Karbi Anglong ( West) were covered. The second phase of Gunotsav will be conducted from 19th to 22nd September 2017 and will cover 12 districts of Assam. The Gunotsav Assam Phase-III was conducted from 3rd – 6th January 2018 in thirteen (13) districts of the State.

Gunotsav Assam is expected to bring about the following results:

  1. Tracking the academic performance of each child across all subjects throughout the elementary cycle.
  2. An indication of learning gaps of child
  3. Designing and implementing remedial strategies based on the identified learning gaps.
  4. Enhancing the learning of students through timely regular feedback and support and bring about improved learning outcomes.
  5. Increase the retention rate and reduce the dropout rate.
  6. Generation of awareness and greater participation among all stakeholders.
  7. Ensuring better school functioning.
